The syndicate of Dhaka University yesterday suspended an assistant professor of law, Mohammad Azharul Islam, for allegedly tampering with the honours final exam grade sheet to favour his choice students.

A five-member team was also formed to investigate the allegation. The allegation surfaced as the publication of results was delayed by around six months.

The teacher could not be reached by phone.

The syndicate also abolished the "Prof Dr Anwarullah Chowdhury Trust Fund", which was created at the Department of Anthropology on August 5, 2015. The decision was taken upon anthropology students' protest against "controversial" VC Dr Anwarullah who was in office during the police assault on female residents of Shamsunnahar Hall on July 23, 2002. The VC was forced to resign the next day amid protest. His family was called to take back the fund of Tk 6 lakh.

Meanwhile, the university goes on a 15-day Eid-ul-Azha vacation today.
