DU students give memo to VC for shifting metro rail route from campus

A section of Dhaka University students yesterday submitted a memorandum to the vice chancellor, urging to take initiative to change the proposed metro rail route through their campus.

A five-member delegation met VC AAMS Arefin Siddique while around hundred students staged a sit-in in the corridor.

"The VC has permitted us to meet the higher authorities in this issue but expressed disagreement with our demand…we will go to the transport ministry to submit the memorandum next month," said Ujma Tazrian, a spokesperson for the demonstrators.

As per the government plan, the 20.1km Mass Rapid Transit Line-6 will run from Uttara to Motijheel and two stations will be built on the campus -- at Shahbagh and near Doyel Chattar.
