Environment sciences dept of JU continues demo for move to new building

JU Correspondent

Students of the environmental sciences department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) boycotted classes for the 20th consecutive day yesterday and also observed a token hunger strike demanding that the department be transferred to a newly constructed building.
They have been demonstrating since the beginning of April demanding the transfer, saying that the move was supposed to take place a year ago.

The department has been facing resistance from two other departments -- computer science and engineering and geological sciences -- housed in the building. According to the other two departments, the building is not big enough for all three departments.
Meanwhile, the probe committee formed on April 16 to look into the matter has requested seven more days for investigations. The team was to submit a report within seven working days from April 16.
