The Export Promotion Bureau Bill 2015 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad last night for continuing its activities under a legal framework to consolidate and expand the country's export.

The bill was sent to the parliamentary standing committee concerned for scrutinising and reporting back to parliament within a month.

Placing the bill, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said the EPB was abolished with the passage of the fifteenth amendment to the constitution, but its activities were continuing after promulgation of an ordinance by the president on January 21, 2013 as the parliament was not in session.

The EPB, which was set up through an ordinance during late president Ziaur Rahman's regime, was annulled throught scrapping of the fifth and sixth amendments.
