Four arrested with drugs and ammo
Police in a series of anti-narcotics drives yesterday arrested four persons with drugs and ammunition in Rajshahi’s Bagha upazila.
The arrestees are Feroza Begum, 28; Khairul Islam, 25; Arab Ali, 23; and Sohag, 22 -- said Nazrul Islam, OC of Bagha Police Station.
Police seized 160 pieces of yaba tablets, 1.3 kilogrammes of marijuana, and 12 bullets from them, he said.
At 11pm on Friday, a team of police, led by Sub-Inspector Lutfar Rahman arrested Arab Ali and Sohag from Sarakghat area while they were carrying 800 grammes of marijuana to Bagha town from the border with India.
Following their statement, the same team of police raided a house at Arani Bazar and arrested Khairul Islam with 60 pieces of yaba tablets at 12:30am.
Based on Khairul’s statement, the police team raided his neighbour’s house and arrested Feroza Begum.
Police seized 100 pieces of yaba tablet that she hid beneath a pillow on her bed, as well as six pistol bullets and six rifle bullets from a rack of household goods.
Feroza’s husband Rasel Ahmed Feroz managed to escape during the raid, said the police.
Police filed five separate cases against the four arrestees and Rasel, for their involvement in illegal trade of drugs and ammunition.
Each arrestee was already accused in more than one drug case beforehand, while the woman and her husband were found to be involved in ammunition trade for the first time, said the OC.
