Child rights advocates yesterday urged the government to implement child budget during the next fiscal year.

By the end of every financial year, they added, the government should publish an evaluation report on how allocation for children was spent.

National Children Taskforce (NCTF) and Child Budget Forum made the demands at a press conference in Dhaka Reporters Unity.

Reading out a six-point demand regarding child budget, a member of NCTF Tanzila Shumi said Tk 50 crore was allocated for children in the fiscal year 2014-15.

"We would like to know specifically where the money was spent," she said.

"Before forming budget, the authorities meet representatives from different professional communities to take their opinion. We demand the authorities do the same with children," she added.

Member of parliamentary caucus on children affairs Umme Razia Kajol, who was present as the chief guest, promised to voice her demand for a child budget in the parliament.

Child Budget Forum Chairperson Dr Abul Hossain and child representatives of NCTF, among others, spoke.
