HC directs govt to protect Bonogram Hindus
The High Court yesterday directed the government to set up a police outpost at Gazipur's Banogram to ensure security of the Hindu community whose houses and temple were damaged on Sunday night.
Over 50 miscreants led by Rafiqul Islam vandalised a temple titled "Shree Shree Sudhonnya Kripamoyee Kali Mandir" and several houses of the community, looted their valuables and injured at least seven people, reported the daily Prothom Alo yesterday.
The miscreants also fired in the air to create panic in the area, said the report quoting relevant sources. The Daily Janakanta and Sangbad also reported the incident.
Following the newspaper reports, the HC issued a suo moto rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain why they should not be directed to take appropriate legal action against the persons responsible for the attacks and vandalism.
The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman also asked the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of Gazipur to submit a report before it by May 6 on what steps have been taken against the miscreants, said Deputy Attorney General Tapash Kumar Biswas.
Supreme Court lawyer Rabindra Ghosh placed the newspaper reports before the HC.
