Housewife succumbs to burn injuries
A woman, who was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with 90 percent burns, succumbed to her injuries at Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of the hospital on Friday night.
The deceased -- Sharmin Akter, 26, wife of Saiful Islam, 28 -- was from Boalkhali upazila in Chattogram.
Sharmin succumbed to her injuries around 9pm, said Dr S Khaled, assistant professor of Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of CMCH.
Saiful was also undergoing treatment at the unit with 18 percent burn injuries, he added.
According to family sources, Sharmin poured kerosene on her body and her husband tried to save her at their house in Boalkhali on early Friday.
Quoting family members, police said Saiful -- an expatriate living and working in Oman -- came to the country several months ago.
They have a nine-year-old daughter.
The couple had a quarrel on Thursday night. At one stage, Sharmin poured kerosene on her body, said Sheikh Neyamat Ullah, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali Police Station, quoting family members.
After pouring kerosene, she lit a match. Her husband sustained burn injuries while trying to save her around 12:30am.
Police were investigating the incident, he said.
