Journo Abdus Shahid loses battle with coronavirus

Abdus Shahid, joint  chief news editor of private television channel NTV, passed away at a  hospital in the capital yesterday, after a long battle with Covid-19.

He was 63.

Shahid breathed his last around 10:45am while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Russel Gastro Liver Hospital,  said Kader Gani Chowdhury, president of a faction of Dhaka Union of  Journalists, reports UNB.

The journalist was admitted to Kuwait Moitree Hospital on July 27  with breathing problems and after two days tested positive. Later, he was shifted to Gastro Liver's ICU.

He is survived by his wife,  son, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

He will be buried at his family graveyard in Laxmipur's Kamalnagar.

Shahid took up journalism as his career in the 1980s and worked for  different newspaper and television organisations, including Dainik Dinkal, Islamic  Television and NTV.

Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at his death.
