JU geography teachers return to classes after a month
The teachers of the geography and environment department at Jahangirnagar University (JU), who had abstained from work for more than a month demanding legal action against a fellow teacher, went back to classes Saturday in the face of the students' outrage.
The students have staged two sit-ins recently in front of the vice chancellor's office, saying they would fall in the trap of session jams due to the teachers' feuding.
Manzurul Hassan, a professor of the department, faces allegations that the other teachers "felt threatened" because they said he brought "outsiders" to the campus on November 7 to protest his removal as head of the examination committee two years ago.
A committee is investigating the allegations and will submit a report within this month, said the head of the committee. Since his removal, Prof Hassan has not been assigned any class or responsibility.
