JU messes up in hiring lecturers

The Jahangirnagar University administration has corrected itself after sending an appointment letter for a lecturer to an aspirant "by mistake".

On December 3, the syndicate decided to appoint three persons -- Md Salah Uddin Razib, Md Atiqur Rahman and Tanzila Hossain -- to the accounting and information system department, said sources.

However, the registrar's office sent appointment letters to four persons, including one Nitay Chandra, by mistake, said Registrar Abu Bakr Siddique.         

After the error was discovered, the authorities cancelled Chandra's appointment letter, he added.

"I joined the department on December 7, but the authorities cancelled my appointment the same day," said Chandra, adding that he would not take any further steps in this regard.
