Lawyers meet Kamaruzzaman today for instructions
Five lawyers of war crimes convict on death row Muhammad Kamaruzzaman will meet him in Dhaka Central Jail today at 10:30am for instructions on his petition seeking a review of the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death penalty.
If there is any "strategic instruction", they will inform it to Kamaruzzaman's senior counsel Khandker Mahbub Hossain who will place arguments before the Supreme Court's Appellate Division tomorrow, one of the five, Shishir Manir, told The Daily Star.
International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced the Jamaat-e-Islami leader to death on May 9, 2013 for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
Kamaruzzaman submitted his appeal at the SC on June 6, 2013 challenging the judgment. The SC upheld it on November 3, 2014.
The tribunal issued the death warrant on February 19 and the prison authorities read it out to him that day. He then filed the review petition on March 5.
The four other lawyers are Ehsan Abdullah Siddiq, Moshiul Alam, Motiur Rahman Akand and Muzahedul Islam Shahin.
