Man gets life term for murdering wife
A Khulna court yesterday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife on August 13, 2014, at a rented house in Boyra Cross area of Khulna city.
The convict is Kalidas Adhikari, from Jashore. The court also fined him Tk 5,000.
Judge Md Mohiduzzaman of Khulna Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-3 gave the verdict in presence of Kalidas, after cross-examining all evidence and witnesses.
Victim’s brother Kalayan Adhikari filed a case with Sonadanga Police Station on August 17, 2014.
Special Public Prosecutor Farid Ahmed, on behalf of the state, handled the case.
According to the case statement, Kalidas killed his wife Dipali Adhikari and went to India with his 14-year-old son. He then phoned his brother-in-law Kalayan two days later, informing him that Dipali could not be reached over phone.
The next morning, Kalayan went to the rented house and broke the door-lock in the presence of police and locals. After breaking in, they found Dipali’s body with stab marks on her neck.
A total of 12 witnesses gave statements in the case. After the verdict, Kalidas’ lawyer Md Khorshed Alom said they would appeal to the High Court.
