Medical students want past facility back to carry on with own batch
Public and private medical college students yesterday demanded restoration of the "carry on" system which allowed them to continue with their respective batches even after they had failed any professional exam.
According to the previous system, the students could carry on with their own batch and had the opportunity to retake the exam six months later.
But the new curriculum of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) scrapped the "carry on" system in 2012. As a result, such students would fall behind, and it would create session jams, said Sanzida Hoque Tania, a second-year student of Shahabuddin Medical College.
The students are anxious that whether they would be enrolled in the junior batch or there would be a special batch only for such students.
Students of the session 2013-2014 fell victim to the new system, said the demonstrators at a human chain in front of the capital's Jatiya Press Club and threatened to go for tougher movement if their demand is not met.
Medical students in other districts also formed human chains.
