Nurjahan Murshid’s death anniv today

Today is the 16th death anniversary of Nurjahan Murshid, a renowned politician, women’s rights activist, and one of the organisers of the 1971 Liberation War.

On the occasion, wreaths will be placed at her grave at Mirpur Intellectuals’ Graveyard. Besides, a doa mahfil will be held and food will be distributed among the destitute, says a press release.

Nurjahan was among the few Muslim women who pursued higher education in the mid-1940s. She was the first Muslim woman to be employed as a broadcaster for All India Radio in 1946.
