One killed, 12 injured in road accidents
Amid heavy rain and unfavourable road conditions, one person died and twelve were injured in accidents across three districts of the country yesterday.
Six people were injured as a bus plunged into a roadside canal in Janigaon area of Sunamganj. The accident took place around 10:30am when the driver of the vehicle lost control over the steering, said Sunamganj fire service's Station Officer Newton Das.
Fire Service and Civil Defence rescued six people, three of whom returned home after receiving primary treatment while the others were admitted at the hospital.
A team of divers from Sylhet and two units of Sunamganj Sadar and South Sunamganj fire services worked till 1:20pm to search for missing persons in the canal.
However, nobody was found and the search was declared over, Das added.
In Tangail, a truck driver died and his helper was injured when a truck fell into a roadside ditch filled with floodwater at Sadar upazila's Gharinda area yesterday.
The deceased is Akter Hossain (40) from Bogura. Md Shafiqul Islam, senior station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Tangail, said driver of the Bogura-bound wheat-laden truck from Dhaka lost control over the steering and the vehicle fell into the roadside ditch full with water. The driver died due to suffocation.
On information, firefighters rushed to the spot, rescued injured helper Md Asadul (50) and rushed him to Tangail General Hospital. Later, they recovered Akter's body and handed over to highway police.
In Jhalakathi, five were injured after a bus hit a leaning tree on the roadside at Rajapur upazila early yesterday.
The incident took place around 1:30am on Barishal-Jhalakathi-Bhandaria road. All five injured were passengers of the bus.
Quoting locals and victims, Jahid Hossain, officer in charge of Rajapur police station, said the bus of Saikat Paribahan was on its way to Pathorghata, Barguna from Chattagram via Rajapur upazila.
"The bus hit a tree at Boloybari. The roof of the bus came off from impact," he said.
On information, firemen and cops rushed to the spot. The injured were taken to Rajapur upazila health complex.
