Rajshahi divisional commissioner, family members test positive
Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Humayun Kabir Khondoker and his family members have tested Covid-19 positive and are on self-isolation in his government quarters.
His wife Nasrin Khondoker (45), and their son Tanjim Mahatab (17), also tested positive for the virus and they are staying with the 54-year-old divisional commissioner, the highest-ranking government official in the division.
The district's Civil Surgeon Dr Md Enamul Haque yesterday said that all the three family members tested positive on Monday night.
The divisional commissioner and his family members were staying at home most of the time other than essential government activities since the coronavirus began spreading, the civil surgeon said.
One of Khondoker's relatives visited their residence recently and later, the relative tested positive. Out of doubt, they had their samples tested, said the civil surgeon.
"Their health conditions are good and they are asymptomatic," he said.
In the last 24 hours, 75 people in the district tested positive, raising the tally of affected to 2,280. In Rajshahi city, the total number of the affected persons is 1,783.
In eight districts of the division, five persons died in 24 hours till 8am yesterday, raising the death toll to 138. At least 10,477 persons were infected with coronavirus in the division so far. Among the infected, 1,077 persons are undergoing treatment at different hospitals while 2,694 ones on home isolation. At least 4,592 persons recovered.
