RU teachers observe Zoha Day today

The Rajshahi University teachers will observe Zoha Day today, marking the 47th martyrdom of Prof Shamsuzzoha.

They also demand that February 18 be declared as "National Teachers' Day".

On this day in 1969, Shamsuzzoha, the then RU proctor and a teacher of the chemistry department, was shot dead at the university by the Pakistani military junta as he tried to convince the army not to fire at the students who were protesting the murder of Sergeant Zahurul Haque.
