Speaker returns home from New York

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury returned home from the USA yesterday, after joining a parliamentary forum in New York.

The Parliamentary Forum at the “2019 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and Related Meetings” was held at the UN Headquarters.

The Speaker addressed a session titled “Growing inequality and distrust in government: Breaking Cycle” at the conference on July 15.

Dr Shirin also attended a discussion arranged by Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Besides, the Speaker joined different programmes during her stay in New York, said a Parliament Secretariat handout.

Senior Secretary to the Parliament Secretariat Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan also joined the parliamentary forum as part of the two-member Bangladesh delegation, the handout added.

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury left Dhaka for New York on July 12 to join the conference.
