Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) Vice Chancellor Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan yesterday joined his office with the teachers resuming their demonstration demanding his resignation over "corruption and irregularities" in appointments.

The teachers under the banner of "Mohan Muktijuddher Chetonay Udbuddho Shikkhakbrinda" submitted memorandums to all department heads in this regard, campus sources said.

The VC, who denies the allegations, joined his office after over a month when the teachers called off their sit-in on the campus.

Before submitting the memorandums, the teachers rallied on the campus yesterday.

Prof Shamsul Alam, president of the association, said the education minister, in a meeting with them Thursday, had assured them of curtailing the vice-chancellor's power in some areas, including appointment and budget allocation.

They will hold a meeting this afternoon to announce new programmes.

The VC, however, said the education minister did not give him any instructions about curtailing his power in another meeting with him on Friday and he is yet to get any official letter in this regard.

During the meeting, he was asked to continue his work, he added.

In wake of protests, the VC went on a two-month leave on April 23. Later, he started performing his duties from his residence.
