Tangail road accident kills couple, driver
Four people were killed in road accidents in two districts yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Tangail, three people were killed and another was injured as a bus hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Mirzapur.
The deceased are Jahangir Hossain, 40, his wife Taslima Begum, 30; and auto-rickshaw driver Shoriful Islam, 30.
The couple’s 10-year-old son Bijoy was injured in the accident, and was treated at Kumudini Hospital.
Police said the accident occurred in Kodim Deohata area around 9:30am, leaving Taslima dead on the spot. Jahangir and Shariful died while undergoing treatment at the hospital, its sources said.
Bijoy was later handed over to his relatives, police said.
The bus was seized but the driver and helpers managed to escape, said Md Mosharaf Hossain, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Mirzapur Police Station.
In Thakurgaon, a motorcyclist was killed after a truck hit the bike from behind on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway near BRTC counter in the town.
Laxsmi Roy, 24, son of Paharia Roy from Dalua village in Dinajpur, died on the spot, said Thakurgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ashikur Rahman.
Locals intercepted the truck but the driver and helper fled.
