Transport owners of Ctg threaten indefinite strike
A platform of transport owners and workers threatened to go for an indefinite strike unless authorities concerned take steps to stop harassment and extortion by law enforcers within three days.
“Gono o Ponno Paribahan Malik-Oikya Parishad” gave the ultimatum at a press conference in the port city yesterday.
They also placed a nine-point demand, including not to use consumer rights act against transport workers, issuing license and updating those in a flexible condition.
Golam Rasul Babul, joint secretary of the platform, in a written statement claimed that law enforcers had made the lives of transport workers miserable by demanding extortion.
Police harass transport workers on the pretext of verifying documents, he alleged, adding that the harassment continues even if the documents are found genuine.
He also criticised Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, saying that they were not against any drive or fine but those have to be based on reasonable grounds.
Monjurul Alam Manju, convener of the platform, was also present at the event.
