Two accused of assaulting woman at CPB office
The wife of a Bangladesh Khet Major Samity leader alleged that she was assaulted by her husband and another leader of the party at Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) office at Paltan in late June. The woman and her husband, had gone to the party office on the night of June 21.
In a case filed against S M Abdus Sattar, also known as S M Shuvo (34) and Ariful Islam Nadim (35) under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at Kalabagan police station on July 16, the woman said that she and Shuvo were married on June 13, 2019. However, their married life was not going well.
"On May 17 morning, he beat me mercilessly, of which I told my father. After two days, he left the house," she wrote in the statement. Shuvo had since been sharing a room with Nadim at CPB office.
"On the night of June 21, my husband told me over phone that he would terminate our relationship," she told this newspaper.
The woman then rushed to the CPB office around 10:45pm to take her husband home.
"He beat me again. His friend Nadim theratened to put me 'under crossfire'… On condition of not disclosing the matter, they later sent me home with the help of another party member," she mentioned.
Contacted yesterday, Shuvo claimed that he did not assault his wife and the allegations made against him are false.
He said their marriage took place through some "complications" and he has been trying to get a divorce due to irreconcilable differences between them.
Both Shuvo and Nadim are executive committee members of Bangladesh Khet Majur Samity, an associate body of CPB. They both denied the allegations.
Nadim claimed, "There was no incident of assault or threat. I told her to solve their marital problems legally by going to police."
Contacted yesterday, Dr Fazlur Rahman, president of Bangladesh Khet Majur Samity, said they received a complaint in this regard and were looking into the allegations.
Sub-inspector Biplab Hossain of Kalabagan Police Station, who is investigating the case, told this newspaper yesterday he has started investigation.
