2 housewives murdered

Two housewives were killed in Jessore and Chandpur districts yesterday and the day before.

A woman was beaten to death allegedly by her husband and sister-in-law following a family feud at Ashwingri Pukuria village in Chowgachha upazila of Jessore on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Rojina Begum, 24, wife of Abdullah of the village, reports our Benapole correspondent.

Khadija Khatun, daughter of the victim, said Rojina and Abdullah locked in an altercation following a family feud at night.

At one stage, Abdullah and his sister Asia Khatun beat up Rojina mercilessly, leaving her seriously injured. Later, they hanged Rojina from the ceiling of her room.

Hearing screams, local people rescued Rojina and took her to Jessore 250-bed Hospital where she died later.

On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Abdullah went into hiding soon after the incident, said Elias Hossain, officer-in-charge of Chowgachha Police Station.

In Chandpur, a housewife was killed by criminals in Balia area of Sadar upazila in the district early yesterday, reports our correspondent.

The dead is Joitun Begum, 32, wife of Kuwait expatriate Md Mizanur Rahman of the area. She was mother of two children.

Family members said a gang of 4/5 entered Joitun's room at midnight and attacked her with sharp weapons.

Critically injured Joitun was rushed to Chandpur General Hospital where on-duty doctors declared her dead.

The body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, said Md Mamunur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Chandpur Model Police Station.

The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately, said family.
