Accused confesses rape, murder of minor girl

An accused in a case filed for killing an abducted a seven-year-old girl has admitted to a court in the district his involvement in murdering her after rape.

Mohammad Julhas Khan, 28, of Habla Dakkhin Para village in Basail upazila, made the confessional statement before the court of Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate Sonia Ahmed on Saturday.

The victim is Juthi Akhter, daughter of Ilias Khan of the village, and neighbour of Julhas, said Sub-Inspector Masud Rana of DB police, investigation officer of the case.

On March 7, the victim's father filed a case for abducting and killing Juthi who went missing from in front of their house on August 29 last year, said Basail police. The case was later shifted to DB police.

Earlier on March 5, police arrested Julhas in a case filed for possessing drugs and then produced him in a court that sent him to jail.

On March 12, Julhas was placed on one-day remand in the case for abducting and killing the girl following a plea filed by DB police with the court.

According to his confessional statement to the court on Saturday, Julhas picked up Juthi from in front of her house on August 29 last year, killed her after rape and dumped the body in the Jhinai River.

Police are trying to recover the body of the girl, said the IO.
