AL leader murdered

Police recovered the decomposed body of a local Awami League leader from a pond at Kanchibari village in Sundarganj upazila of the district yesterday. The dead is Habibur Rahman Habi, 38, publicity secretary of Kanchibari union unit of AL. He went out of his house on Tuesday afternoon and did not return home since then. Later, his son filed a general diary in this connection. On information from locals, police recovered the body from the pond and sent it to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. He might have been strangled, said Jinnat Ali, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station. The law enforcers arrested a woman of the area in this connection, the OC said, adding that a murder case was filed, accusing eight people.
