Bera mayor, 14 others charge- sheeted

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday pressed charges against 15 people, including Bera municipality mayor Abdul Baten, in three cases filed for embezzling state money.

Jalal Uddin, deputy assistant director of Pabna ACC office, submitted three charge-sheets against them to the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court in the afternoon.

The ACC filed the three cases against the accused, including Baten, also brother of former state minister for home Shamsul Hoque Tuku, with Bera Police Station on August 28 and 31 last year.

According to the case statements, the accused leased out C&B Karmaja Natun Haat for 13 years in two phases instead of one year each, showing it as private property through misusing power.

They misappropriated Tk 24,8,74,222.
