Bid to arrest drug peddlers foiled in Pabna
Local Awami League men allegedly foiled a bid to arrest drug users and peddlers in Pabna bypass terminal area of the district on Monday night.
As part of anti-drug drive in the district, members of different law enforcement agencies led by Additional Superintendent of Police Liton Kumar Shah raided the area around 9:30pm.
"When we advanced towards the terminal area, the men of local AL leader Md Shahidur Rahman and transport workers confronted policemen. After the incident, we returned back from the spot," said the ASP.
When the law enforcers went to arrest the drug users and peddlers in the area, Shahid, organising secretary of Pabna municipality unit of AL, along with his men resisted the cops.
Police then tried to arrest Shahid but his fellows took away him from the law enforcers, alleged locals.
A group of angry people later vandalised some vehicles and shops in the area.
Advocate Taslim Hasan Sumon, president of Pabna municipality unit of AL, said police mistakenly arrested Shahid, sparking an angry protest.
However, Shahid was later released, he said, adding that Shahid has no relation with drug abuse.
