Bring schoolboy Sunny's killers to book
People of Shalban and Shaheepara areas in Rangpur city formed a human chain in front of the local press club yesterday, demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of schoolboy Anik Hasan Sunny.
Sunny, 12, son of Omar Ali of Shalban area and a Class VIII student of Kailash Ranjan High School in the city, was beaten up mercilessly by some of his playmates following an altercation over playing cricket at Rangpur Polytechnic Institute ground on Friday. He succumbed to his injuries at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Monday.
Victim's father lodged a murder case with Rangpur Kotwali Police Station the same day, accusing six people, including Fahim Molla, 13, son of Babu Molla of Shalban area.
Addressing a rally at the venue, the speakers said police are yet to arrest any of the accused and no progress has been made in the investigation into the case.
They alleged that the accused and their family members are issuing threats to the victim's family members and creating pressure on them to withdraw the case. The speakers threatened to launch a tougher agitation programme if the killers are not arrested immediately.
Among others, Sunny's father Omar Ali, sister Sumi Akhter, cousin Sumon Ahmed, and Samiul Iqbal and Ayub Ali of the area addressed the rally.
Later they brought out a protest procession and paraded the main streets of the city. Contacted, Md Abdul Qader Jilani, Officer in Charge of Rangpur Kotwali Police Station, said law enforcers are trying their best to arrest the culprits.
