Clash over control of fish landing station in Bhola
A man was killed and 10 others were injured during a clash between two groups of fish traders over control of a fish landing station in Tazumuddin upazila of the district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Mannan, 70, of Dewanpur village in the upazila.
Locals said there had been a long-standing dispute between the two groups of fish traders--one led Nur-e-Alam and the other by Shafiq--over control of Choumohani fish landing station in the upazila.
At around 11:30am, the supporters of the two groups, equipped with lethal weapons, locked in a clash in a bid to capture the fish landing station, leaving at least 11 people from both sides injured.
Of the injured, five were taken to the upazila health complex where the doctors declared Mannan dead. The remaining five injured were given first aid at the hospital.
Being informed, police went to the spot and dispersed the clashing groups. No one was arrested in connection with the incident as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
Police have been deployed in the area to avert any further incident, said Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge of Tazumuddin Police Station.
