Cop injured by 'ruling party men'

A police officer was attacked and injured allegedly by Jubo League and Chhatra League men at Maischhari Bazar under Mohalchhari upazila of the district yesterday morning.

The victim is Sub-Inspector Md Shahidul Islam, also in-charge of Maischhari Bazar police camp.

Md Rois Uddin, assistant superintendent of police (Sadar Circle), said one Binoy Chakma submitted a petition to Shahidul, accusing one Jahirul Islam of stealing Tk 1,200. Shahidul Islam sat in arbitration with both sides and asked Jahirul to pay Tk 1,200 to Binoy Chakma.

Being aggrieved, Jahirul started an altercation with Shahidul at around 10:00am. At one stage, Maischhari Union Jubo League President Hazrat Ali and Chhatra League President Saiful Islam and some 8/10 unknown people beat up Shahidul, leaving him injured. Locals rushed to the spot, rescued the injured SI and admitted him to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital.

Later, police arrested Hazrat Ali and Saiful Islam for their alleged involvement with the incident.
