Criminal held after 'gunfight' with cops

An alleged criminal was arrested following a 'gunfight' with police in Sadar upazila of the district on Tuesday.

Arrestee Jumman Hossain, 34, of Chelopara in the district town, sustained bullet injuries in the leg. He was undergoing treatment under police custody.

Two policemen were also injured during the incident. They are constables Rezaul Karim and Uzzal Hossian of Sadar Police Station. 

Police said acting on a tip-off, the law enforcers raided Namabala area around 10:00pm. Sensing the presence of the policemen, Jumman opened fire at them, triggering the gunfight.

The law enforcers later arrested bullet-hit Jumman with a pistol, four bullets and one magazine.

The arrestee is accused in several cases, including two for murder, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Shabbir Ahmed Sharfraz.
