'Criminal' killed in 'shootout' with cops
An alleged criminal was killed in a "gunfight" with police in Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Ujjal, 30.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive at around 1:30am at a local brickfield where a gang, led by Ujjal, was taking preparation to commit aa robbery, said Akul Chandra Biswas, officer in-charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station.
Sensing the presence of the police team, the gang opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate. Three police personnel also sustained injuries during the gunfight, the OC said.
Police said Ujjal sustained bullets while his cohorts managed to flee. They (police) took him to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
The law enforcers recovered a pistol, three bullets and 11 crude bombs from the spot.
Police said Ujjal was wanted in a number of case, including one for murder.
