Export-import thru' Sonamasjid port halted for 5 hours
Export-import through Sonamasjid land port in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj remained suspended for five hours following a petrol bomb attack on an Indian truck on the port premises Sunday night.
Sonamasjid-Panama Port Link Limited and Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agents Association sources said unidentified criminals hurled a petrol bomb at a maize-laden Indian truck at around 11:00pm. The front side of the truck was badly damaged by fire.
Protesting bomb attack on the truck, Indian truckers stopped entering Bangladesh at 9:00am yesterday.
Later, the users of Mohodipur port in Malda of Paschimbanga and Sonamasjid port, representatives of business organisations, officials of local administration and law enforcment agencies held a meeting at Sonamasjid land port where the port authorities assured that they would pay compensation for the truck. The meeting ended at 2:00pm.
Following the meeting, goods-laden Indian trucks started entering Sonamasjid land port at 2:30pm, port sources said.
