Include Bangladesh’s culture, history in foreign curriculum: Nahid
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today said the educational institutions which follow foreign curriculum were instructed to include Bangladesh's culture, heritage and history.
If the educational institutions fail to implement the instruction, then those cannot survive, Nahid said while addressing a human chain programme at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka in the morning.
The programme was oragnised to create awareness against militancy and terrorism in the wake of recent terror attacks in the country.
There will be various types of educational systems like vocational and religious but the target should be production of good and patriotic citizens, the minister said.
Nahid underscored the need for social movement with unity to curb extremism.
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan and National University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Harun-or-Rashid spoke on the occasion among others.
The chairman of regulatory body said none should be misguided by the wrong explanation of Islam.
"The UGC will conduct investigation against the university if any allegation related to extremism is surfaced, and will submit report to the education ministry," he said.
The ministry, thus, will take action, Abdul Mannan added.
The NU VC said they have issues an eight-point directive for all authorities of public colleges and universities.
According to the directive, the authorities concerned will have to inform the UGC about the students who will remain absent for a long time and monitor halls or dormitories especially after dusk, Dr Harun said.

Holding various banners depicting anti-terrorism slogans, students, teachers and employees of various educational institutions also gathered in the Central Shaheed Minar area of Dhaka University and other places in the city.

Speaking at another human chain on DU campus, the university's Vice-Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said, "Mass resistance has to be forged against those who are involved in terrorism and extremism and their instigators."
Condemning the incident of Gulshan attack, he said the cohorts of anti-liberation force accomplice the incident.
Jagannath University (JnU) also held human chain and brought out a procession promoting mass awareness against militancy.
JnU VC Mizanur Rahman urged to spread social and cultural activities at the universities like DU to save their students from go to the evil path.
The UGC earlier said if any university doesn't have adequate space to form human chain on its campus, it would hold the programme at any nearby open space.
