One jailed, 2 fined for hunting birds

A mobile court yesterday sentenced a man to three months imprisonment and fined two others for hunting birds in Sadar upazila.

They are Kawsar Morol, 55, Salam Gazi, 32, and Faisal Hossain,18, of Mithabari village in Patkelghata upazila of the district.

The court sentenced Kawsar to three months imprisonment and fined Salam and Faisal Tk 2,000 each.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in Binerpota area of Sadar upazila and arrested the trio while they were hunting birds there on Tuesday night.

The law enforcers also recovered an airgun and seven herons from their possession.

The arrestees were produced before the court led by Executive Magistrate Shah Abdul Sadi yesterday morning, which punished the poachers.
