RU journalism students to boycott classes for 7 days

Students of Mass Communication and Journalism at Rajshahi University have decided to abstain from classes starting tomorrow demanding proper investigation into the deaths of their fellow Motaleb Hossain Lipu and department's teacher Akhtar Jahan Joly.

The students informed it to the departmental head, Pradwip Kumar Pandey, at his office this morning.

They will bring out a torch procession this evening and will also hold a rally and form a human chain on the campus tomorrow demanding investigation into the deaths and exemplary punishment to the responsible persons.

Lipu, 22, a second year student of the department and son of Badar Uddin of Mukimpur village in Jhenidah's Harinakundu was found dead in a gutter of Nawab Abdul Latif Hall on October 20.  His roommate has been detained in connection with the incident.

On the other hand, Akter Jahan Joly, 45, an associate professor journalism department, found dead inside her campus quarters on September 9.

Police recovered a suicide note from the room that reads, "No one is responsible for my death. I committed suicide due to physical and mental pressure."
