Six hurt in clash over land dispute

Six people were injured as two groups of villagers clashed over the ownership of a disputed land at Barogharia village in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday.

Locals said the two groups--one led by Saiful Islam and the other by Abu Bakkar Siddique--had been claiming the ownership of 40 decimals of land at the village for long.

Villagers had earlier held several meetings to settle the matter, but they failed.

When Abu Bakkar and his men went to the land to harvest amon paddy at noon, Saiful and his supporters attacked them with lethal weapon, prompting their rivals to retaliate.
