Jasas leader shot

A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) was shot by criminals in Dagonbhuiyan upazila of the district early Sunday. The injured is Ismail Hossain alias Sabuj, 40, general secretary of the upazila unit of Jasas. Family sources said a gang opened fire on Sabuj near his house at Pashchim Rajapur village in the upazila, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to a local hospital and then referred to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated. Md Abul Faisal, officer-in-charge of Dagonbhuiyan Police Station, said they were yet to receive any information about the incident.
Two held with Yaba

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two youths along with 510 Yaba tablets at Norkhali village in Sadar upazila on Saturday. The arrestees are Alamgir Sheikh, 27, son of late Azahar Ali, and Rajib Sheikh, 28, son of Monir Sheikh of the village. ASP Jasim Uddin, assistant director of Rab-8, said the elite force, acting on a tip-off, raided a house of the area in the evening and arrested the duo along with the Yaba tablets.
2 hurt in bomb blasts

Two people sustained injuries as criminals blasted several crude bombs in front of Sadar Police Station on Sunday. The injured were identified as Suja, 22, and Jewel Rana, 25. A gang blasted bombs in front of the main gate of the police station at around 7:30pm, leaving the two injured, said Additional Superintendent of Police Siddikur Rahman. Meanwhile, two crude bombs also went off at Abdul Hamid Sarak in the district town the same time, said police.
Boy drowns in river
Unb, Magura
A teenage boy drowned in the Nabaganga River at Binodpur village in Mohammadpur upazila on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Nazmul Alam, 18, son of Sadek Ali. Police said Nazmul fell into the river when he along with two other friends went to the river to enjoy a boat ride at around 5:00pm. Later, locals rescued the boy and took him to Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, said Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
15 shops gutted
Unb, Rajbari
At least 15 shops were gutted in fire incidents in Baliakandi and Goalanda upazilas of the district early Sunday. In Baliakandi, a fire gutted 10 shops at Bohorpur Bazar in the upazila. In another incident, at least five shops were gutted in Daulatdia launch ghat area of Goalunda upazila at around 4:30am. On information, fire service units from Rajbari and Pangsha rushed to the spot and doused the flames, said Station Officer Fazlul Haque of Rajbari Fire Service.
