Student, village doctor stabbed to death

A student and a village doctor were stabbed to death in Jessore and Gaibandha districts yesterday and the day before.

Criminals killed a boy on Karbala Mosque premises in Jessore town early yesterday, reports our Benapole correspondent.

The deceased is Md Raihan, 17, son of Golam Rabbani of Ghope area in the town. He secured GPA-4.07 in this year's SSC examinations.

Police and locals said a gang stabbed Raihan and his two other friends-- Amit and Tito-- while they were praying on Shab-e-Barat night in the mosque.

They were rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared Raihan dead, said Shikder Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

The reason behind the attack could not be known immediately, said police.

No case was filed as of filing of this report around 5:00pm yesterday, said the OC.

In Gaibandha, a village doctor was murdered at Kazir Bazar in Palashbari upazila on Tuesday, reports our correspondent.

The dead is Mahbuber Rahman Dipti, 40, of Khamar Tengorjani village in Sadar upazila.

Police said criminals riding two motorbikes intercepted Dipti and Sujan, 25, from Balua village at the bazar while they were going to Nakaihat in Gobindaganj upazila around 5:00pm, riding a motorcycle.

At one stage, the gang shot the duo and then stabbed them, leaving the village doctor dead on the spot.

Sujan was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, said Mojibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Palashbari PS.

Police are raiding different areas to arrest the attackers, said the OC, adding that the incident might have taken place over a family feud.
