Three jailed for arranging child marriage

A mobile court sentenced three people to 15 days' imprisonment each for arranging marriage of an underage girl at Nithok village in Kaliganj upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The convicts are marriage registrar Enamul Haque, 40, bride's uncle Refaz Uddin, 55, of the village, and bridegroom's brother in-law Abdul Karim, 28, of Baninagar village in the upazila.

On information, a police team went to the village at around 9:00pm and arrested the three while they were arranging marriage of the girl.

The arrestees were later produced before the court, led by Executive Magistrate Asaduzzaman, which punished them, said Manjur Ali, officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Police Station.
