Three NGO officials held for 'rape bid'
Local people rescued a female employee of a local NGO (non government organisation), after foiling a rape bid allegedly by her three colleagues in Nayapara area of the district town yesterday.
Police said, the 23-year-old victim, a para-medical officer under a health programme run by the NGO at its Dewanganj branch was asked to attend an urgent meeting at the organisation's head office in Nayapara area yesterday noon.
As she entered the meeting room around 2:00pm, three officials-- Executive Director of the NGO Mokhlesur Rahman, 49, Implementation Officer Nur-e-Alam Siddiqui, 38, and Programme Assistant Sumon, 28,-- locked the door from inside and tried to violate her forcibly.
Hearing her scream, people from the nearby houses and establishments rushed to the spot and encircled the NGO office. They rescue the victim from the spot and informed the police.
Being informed, police went to the spot and arrested the trio. A case was filed with Sadar Police Station against the arrestees, said Rafiqul Islam, investigation officer of the case.
