Trader hacked to death in Rangpur

A trader was hacked to death by unidentified criminals at Sadhu-Lichubagan village under Kaunia upazila of the district early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 26, son of Abul Hossain of the village and owner of a grocery shop at Mirbag Bazar in the same upazila. 

Police and villagers said masked criminals, numbering 10 to 12, attacked Nazrul near his house at Sadhu village while he was returning home at around 1:30pm. They hacked him with sharp weapons and left the scene.

Villagers took the critically injured Nazrul to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where he died soon after admission.
Protesting the killing, traders of the bazar yesterday observed a six-hour shutdown.
