Drug peddler killed in shootout in Dhaka: DB

An alleged drug peddler was killed in a "shootout" with detectives in Dhaka's Khilgaon area early yesterday.

The deceased, Md Rajib (32), was accused in at least 25 cases with different police stations, said Md Asaduzzaman, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (Motijheel Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The gunfight took place around 2:30am when a team of detectives carried out a raid at Nagdarpar area knowing that drug peddlers gathered there.

Sensing the presence of police, the criminals opened fire at them who retaliated for self defence, resulting in an exchange of fire.

Rajib was caught in the line of fire and injured severely while others fled away, the DB official claimed.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Detectives claimed to have recovered a firearm and 500 pieces of yaba from the spot.
