Celebration of FFSB’s Golden Jubilee kicks-off
On the rainy evening of March 19, The Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh (FFSB) hosted the inauguration programme of the year-long celebrations for the competition of 50 years of their journey and 60 years of the Film Society Movement in Bangladesh.
The programme started around 6pm at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's (BSA) Jatiya Natyashala Theatre. The programme consisted of an award ceremony honouring the 'Best Film of Bangladesh's 50 Years', a performance by Joler Gaan, and a screening of the film, Lal Moroger Jhuti.
The programme's chief guest was the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Dr Hasan Mahmud, while eminent filmmaker, Syed Salahuddin Zaki was present as the special guest.
Belayet Hossain Mamun, General Secretary of FFSB, delivered the welcome speech on the occasion.
A part of the year-long celebrations will be a festival featuring stories, documentaries and short-films made in the five decades after the independence of Bangladesh.
A five-member committee, featuring prominent film-researcher and writer Anupam Hayat, has been formed to select films and documentaries released in five decades. Mostafa Monwar will be the chairman of the 11-member jury committee for the selection of the film.
The FFSB will also organise workshops on film education in 10 districts of the country—namely Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Rangpur, Khulna, Kushtia and Rangamati.
Additionally, an initiative has been taken to make a documentary on the Film Parliament Movement, which is being produced by filmmaker and film activist, Adri Hridayesh.
The year-long celebrations will end on October 28.
