'Payer Talai Maati Nai' to compete in 52nd Int'l Film Festival, India

"Payer Talai Maati Nai" (No Ground Beneath The Feet), directed by  Mohammad Rabby Mridha of Bangladesh, is among the 15 feature films which will compete for the Golden Peacock and other awards at the 52nd International Film Festival of India.

The line-up of international movies for the competition section during the festival, which begins on November 28, was announced in New Delhi today.

The International Competition section is one of the most important events of IFFI that features some of the best films of the year.

"Payer Talai Maati Nai", produced by director Abu Shahed Emon, which premiered at the Busan International Film Festival's 'A Window on Asian Cinema' in October, tells the story of an ambulance driver in Dhaka and the struggles of his wife in a slowly shrinking river delta under the effect of climate change, poverty and social ills.

The film's cast includes Mostafa Monwar, who won best performance at the 2016 Singapore International Film Festival for "Live from Dhaka"), Priyam Archi and Deepanwita Martin of Rubayat Hossain's "Made in Bangladesh".

This year's competition section has three films from India, two from Russia and one each from Finland, Paraguay, Romania, USA, Poland, Russia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Japan, Czech Republic and Brazil

These films will compete for various categories of awards: Best Film (Golden Peacock) which carries a cash prize of Rs. 40,00,000 to be shared equally between the director and the producer, Silver Peacock for the Best Director (certificate and a cash prize of Rs.15,00,000), Silver Peacock for the Best Actor (Male, certificate and a cash prize of Rs10,00,000), Silver Peacock for the Best Actor (Female, certificate and a cash prize of Rs10,00,000) and Special Jury Award (Silver Peacock, certificate and a cash prize of Rs 15,00,000)  given to a film (for any aspect of the film which the jury wants to award) or an individual (for his/her artistic contribution to a film.

The award, if given to a film, will be given to the director of the film.
