Festive Philosophising

Festive Philosophising

Last week saw the end of Poush in the Bangla calendar, and the people of Old Dhaka welcomed the new month with a colourful kite festival spanning two days. At a time when traditions are quickly forgotten, the kite flying competition continues to thrive in the heart of old town. But in our photos, you can see the modernisation that the festival went through to survive -- now there are rooftop DJ parties and even Doraemon kites.
We are somewhat laden with philosophical discourses in this issue. We discuss Nietzsche's ideas of ethics and morality, and prove that the lion and the lamb can coexist if they have a thorough understanding of game theory. There's also a deep reflection on lifts -- what do they symbolise? The inefficiency of the establishment? Your ascent into a new social sphere? Maybe they represent life itself.
I'm just hoping that certain public figures are reading SHOUT today.
