Arms, ammo seized in Ctg

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recovered arms and ammunition of a murder accused in Satkania upazila of Chittagong on Monday night.

As per the confessional statement of Mahfuzul Haque alias Mahmudul Haque, a member of Eochiya union and also a vice-president of the union unit Jubo League, the CID team took him to his Chhonkhola village around 9:00pm, said Kutub Uddin, additional superintendent of the CID.

The team then recovered an AK-22, its two magazines, three light guns (LG), six bullets and seven cartridges wrapped in polyethylene bags from a ditch.

On January 8, some unidentified criminals came to Eochiya union unit Awami League leader Hafez Ahmed's house and opened fire through a window of his house in Eochiya village.

Anwara Begum, sister-in-law of Hafez, who had come to the house for a visit, was hit by bullets and died.

Hafez then filed a murder case with Satkania Police Station.

The CID was investigating the case. As per confessional statements of two other accused in the case, police held Mahfuzul on August 5, said investigation officer of the case, Obaidul Haque, also an inspector of the CID.

Mahfuzul also admitted that the arms had been used in the January 8 incident, the CID official claimed. 

An arms case was filed against Mahfuzul with the police station yesterday, he added.
