Two minor girls raped in city
Two girls below the age of 10 were raped in capital's Hazaribagh and Mirpur areas on Saturday.
Doctors at the one-stop crisis centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the victims were receiving treatment, found preliminary evidence of rape.
The incidents took place three days after a female worker was gang-raped allegedly by one of her fellow colleagues and two of his cohorts in capital's Uttara area.
In the Hazaribagh incident, a seven-year-old girl was raped by a man while her parents were away at work on Saturday.
Police arrested suspect Khokon, 35, following the incident.
Quoting the victim and her family, Moinul Islam, officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh Police Station, told The Daily Star that the girl along with her parents, who work as a rickshaw puller and a house help, lived in a house in Rayerbazar area.
Around 11:00am when the parents were away, Khokon forcibly took the little girl to a room nearby and raped her, the OC said.
Locals rushed to the spot on hearing the girl's screams and rescued her but Khokon managed to flee.
A nine-year-old at Pirerbagh in Mirpur was raped allegedly by her neighbour Russell, 20.
Talking to reporters at DMCH, victim's mother, a garment worker, said on returning from work around 8:30pm on Saturday, she found her daughter looking pale and sick.
"Russell entered the house where my daughter was watching TV and raped her," she said, quoting the victim.
Russell is on the run.
The mother took her child to Mirpur Police Station first and then admitted her to DMCH around 3:00am.
Bilkis Begum, coordinator of the one-stop crisis centre, told The Daily Star that forensic tests on the girls have been carried out.
