Bangladesh border troopers have handed over three Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members who were held this morning for trespassing into Bangladesh territory.

BSF Assistant Sub-Inspector Harnam Shing, constables Rakesh Kumar and Santosh Kumar of Harudanga camp in Murshidabad were handed over around 1:20pm.

Our local staff correspondent quotes Border Guard Bangladesh’s Majardiar camp Company Commander Abu Taleb to quote that Bangladesh lodged a “strong protest” over the intrusion.

During the handover, the arms, mobile phones and walkie-talkies seized from the three Indian border troopers were also given away. The Indian side said to have admitted their fault and pledged that such incident will not have a recurrence.

The BSF members went about a kilometre into Bangladesh territory for what they explained “while chasing cattle smugglers in thick fog”, Majardiar camp Commander Nayek Subedar Shafiqul Islam said.
